Korede Bello’s Lecturer Threatens To Resign Over Absence From School

A source who on an anonymous ground disclosed that, some of Korede Bello’s lecturers have threatened to resign if the singer is allowed to write his exams because he has not met up with 70% of his class attendance for the semester.

He further added that the one of his lecturers in class on Wednesday, January 6, disclosed that he will resign if Korede Bello is allowed to sit for his exams later this year because he has not been attending lectures due to his busy schedule.
Confirming the report Naij.com, spoke with Korede Bello’s manager Casper but after exchanging pleasantries and been asked about the allegation against the music star, he dropped the call. All further attempts to reach him proved abortive.

Lee Daniels Owes Workers From 2005 Flop “Shadowboxer”

Lee Daniels is on the hook for $335,000 in unpaid residuals to his film employees who worked on his 2005 box office bomb “Shadowboxer” after a federal court judge ordered him to pay the full amount in a legal battle brought by an actor’s union.

The Screen Actors Guild America Federation of Television and Radio Artists slapped the ‘Empire’ creator. with a federal lawsuit last month over unpaid residuals along with required pension and health contributions to employees who worked on the directors 2005 film, ‘Shadowboxer’ which starred Helen Mirren, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The lawsuit explained that SAG-AFTRA tried to take Daniels to arbitration back in 2009 over the situation – but the director never showed up to court. The arbitrator came back with the decision in 2011 and awarded the union guilds $335,000. The award consisted of $169,630 in residuals along with $25,323 in pension and health contributions and nearly $94,000 in late payment damages.

SAG-AFTRA filed the suit demanding the federal court judge confirm the arbitration award so they could go after Daniels’ company for the cash owed.

Daniels never responded to the lawsuit in court nor was he required to show up and answer the allegations in the complaint.

Then on January 4th, the federal court judge came back and confirmed the arbitration award ordering Daniels to pay the $335,000 to SAG-AFTRA but refused to award them attorney fees for the case.

The case was closed the same day.

Victor Osimhen Rejects Arsenal, Chooses Wolfsburg

2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup sensation Victor Osimhen has suggested he would be joining Wolfsburg of Germany hence rejecting the chance to join Arsenal in the English Premier League.

The Stade des Lumieres is one of the new stadiums being built ahead of the 2016 European Championships holding in France.

The stadium, which reportedly cost £186million, will also replace the Stade Gerland as the Ligue 1 side’s official home ground.

Carlo Ancelotti refused the chance to replace an about to be sacked Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United to take over at Bayern Munich next season.

Ancelotti has previously indicated an interest in returning to the Premier League after leaving Real Madrid last season but despite being approached by United chief executive Ed Woodward back in November, rejected the offer.

According to the Daily Mail, Ancelotti refused because he was already in negotiations with Bayern Munich to take over from Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2016.

The report reads: “Ancelotti’s decision to join Bayern was not set in stone when Woodward first made contact and the Italian has made no secret during recent interviews of his love for English football.

“Sources close to Ancelotti hinted that the Germans made him feel ‘more wanted’ and that the Italian had ‘great confidence in the existing structures’ in Bavaria.”

Despite United winning just one of their last nine fixtures in all competitions, it is believed Woodward is still “desperate” to see Van Gaal turn it around, given that the Dutchman was Woodward’s top choice for the role.

Jose Mourinho is under consideration, but Van Gaal’s assistant Ryan Giggs is now the most likely replacement for Van Gaal.

The report concludes: “In the light of Ancelotti’s rejection and fears at United that Mourinho’s temperament could prove divisive, there is now a growing belief that the current assistant manager Ryan Giggs is the most likely to succeed Van Gaal, when the Dutchman eventually leaves.”

Beware Of IMF Visit, Ibrahim Warns Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has been warned to be wary of the current visit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Nigeria.

This warning came from Jimoh Ibrahim, the group managing director of Energy Group, Vanguard reports.

Ibrahim said the visit of Christine Lagarde, the IMF’s managing director, is a means of campaigning for economic conditionalities, adding that her visit was an economic bait that will do Nigeria no good.

He accused the IMF of having a hidden agenda which only time will tell.

Ibrahim said: “I enjoin President Buhari to learn from Ibrahim Badamosi Babagida’s pitfall when he handed over the economy to IMF by taking specific loan only for the economy to be destroyed with IMF’s painful colonial conditionalities. The government of IBB was simply put to an end in economic terms by the Structural Adjustment Programme, an IMF baby which remains the foundation of Nigeria’s problem.

“For IMF to advise Nigeria not to be rigid in Economy Policy is an indirect way of asking for devaluation of naira and campaigning for ‘about to come’ IMF conditionalities, knowing very well that Nigeria may ask for assistance.”

He noted that the IMF boss did not say anything new saying ten things are likely to be the areas of advice of IMF which is already a stereotype.

“They are usually Fiscal Policy, Reduction of Public Spending, Tax Reform, Interest Rate, Competitive Exchange Rate, Trade Liberalization, Encouragement of Foreign Direct Investment, Privatization of state enterprise, deregulation and legal security of property right.

“These ten-point agenda is not new to Nigeria. But the question we normally ask is whose interest? The optimum bias is playing clearly in her statement,” he stated.

According to him, Lagarde’s statement on the economy is traditional and full of strategic misrepresentation, advising the government to run away from such unsolicited advice.

He accused the IMF boss of strategic misrepresentation when she said oil does not contribute enormously to the GDP, knowing very well that the Nigeria budget is funded majorly through revenue from oil.

Ibrahim challenged the IMF to come with practical terms on how to help Nigeria solve its financial crisis by granting the country loans in liberal terms when the need arises or even if it is to develop infrastructure since Nigeria oil money has been used by IMF in the past to help other nations.

Lagarde arrived Nigeria on Monday and she held talks with President Buhari the next day. She had said contrary to widespread perception,she was not in Nigeria to negotiate a loan for the country. According to her, she discussed with Buhari on how Nigeria could face the challenges associated with global economic meltdown.

She met with members of the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday in Abuja. During her meeting with the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, she urged Nigeria to target the poor in its expenditure, especially fuel subsidy spending.

Top Ten Important Things IMF Boss Said That Every Nigerian Should Know

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) boss, Christine Lagarde met with Bukola Saraki, the Senate President in Abuja on Wednesday, January 6 2016.

At the meeting which held at the National Assembly, Lagarde stated some important facts that most Nigerians should be aware of.

We compiled some of those points. Read excerpts below.

1.The IMF staff estimates that regional economic growth dropped from 5 percent in 2014 to about 3.8 percent last year, with only a modest recovery expected in 2016.

2. Growth is affected by three major economic transitions. They include China’s move to a new growth model, the prospect of commodity prices remaining lower for longer, and the increasing divergence in monetary policy in major economies, especially since the recent rise in U.S. interest rates.

3. Over the medium term, oil prices are likely to remain much lower than the 2010-13 average of more than $100 a barrel. Why? Because of the huge oversupply in global oil markets

4. Lower oil prices have sharply reduced Nigeria’s export earnings and government revenues. Both are likely to remain at depressed levels, reducing the space for policy interventions to address Nigeria’s social and infrastructure needs.

5. The first step is to broaden the tax base in Nigeria and reduce leakages is by improving compliance and enhancing collection efficiency.

6. Nigeria should build resilience bymaking careful decisions on borrowing. Nigeria’s debt is relatively low at about 12 percent of GDP, but it weighs heavily on the public purse. Already, about 35 kobo of every naira collected by the federal government is used to service outstanding public debt.

7. Nigeria should exercise restraint by focusing on the quality and efficiency of every naira spent. This is critically important. As more people pay taxes there will, rightly, be increasing pressure to demonstrate that those tax payments are producing improvements in public service delivery.

8. Fuel subsidies are hard to defend. Not only do they harm the planet, but they rarely help the poor. IMF research shows that more than 40 per cent of fuel price subsidies in developing countries accrue to the richest 20 per cent of households, while only 7 per cent of the benefits go to the poorest 20 per cent.

9. Nigeria should manage the smaller purse, while building capacity to increase internally generated revenue.

10. Maternal mortality is relatively high because of limited access to health care. Many women and children are dying every day simply because they cannot get to medical facilities fast enough.

Singer Banky W has allegedly broken his relationship with his lover of three years. Details surrounding the cause of the break up are still sketchy but sources say he might have started another affair with a female singer.

According to international journalist Faith Irabor, the relationship between Banky W and his Italian/ Ghanaian lover ended after they couldn’t work things out any further in the affair.

Recall that in 2013, Banky W openly denied being in a relationship with Andrea after news of both of them being an item almost became viral.

2,000 Workers Sacked As MTN Acquires Visafone

  
MTN, Africa’s leading mobile phone operator, has finally sealed the deal to acquire Visafone, the only surviving Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) operator in Nigeria, owned by the banking magnate, Mr. Jim Ovia.
The acquisition of Visafone, the only surviving CDMA operator in Nigeria, by MTN, a GSM operator, marks the final death of CDMA operations in Africa’s largest economy.
Though, MTN is yet to make official announcement of the acquisition, but 
inside sources confirmed the development to Daily Trust reporter.
Contrary to the initial report about the deal that MTN is not taking along the purchase of the CDMA company with its liabilities, sources said the telecoms giant has acquired the staggering Visafone with all its properties, including its spectrum and liabilities.
Meanwhile, over 2,000 employees were 
disengaged with effect from January 5, 
2016, and were paid three months’ 
salaries as severance package.
The only categories of employees said to be left were those in the personnel and 
transmission departments.
One of the affected workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the sacking came as
 a surprise to many of them.
“We learnt that the management would downsize, but we were told that that would be later in 2016. It is, however, surprising that they are sending 
majority of us away so early in the year. Though they paid three months’ severance benefits, but should it be this way?
“Some of us have put in five to 10 years 
of our lives in keeping the business going, but see what we are getting now. It is well.”

A senior management employee at Visafone confirmed the sacking, but was quick to refer media enquiries to MTN because he was not authorised to speak on the deal.
